关键词:推广干事、推广服务、小规模农民、地区农业协调员 i Abstract Agricultural extension is the implementation of scientific study and new ideas through farmer education to agriculture. Agriculture extension includes all the activities that promote access to expertise, information, and technology for farmers, their communities, organisations, and other market actors. It facilitates interaction with other stakeholders such as researchers, training institutions, agri-business firms, and other relevant organizations by crop producers, livestock or fish. Agricultural extension effectively develops the potential of farmers by creating their own technological, managerial, and management skills and practices Agricultural extension leads to improvements in farmers' awareness, attitudes, expertise and expectations. Agricultural extension services are being implemented in Zambia to support all categories of farmers in the country especially small scale farmers in order to increase their production capacities and ultimately to increase their household incomes. In Zambia, there are two main channels for extension services delivery namely; Farm Institutes, Livestock Service Centres and Farmer Training Centres on one hand and, the network of agricultural blocks and camps for fisheries, crops and livestock on the other hand. This study was designed to achieve a well-balanced view on the latter channel, to examine whether there is an agricultural extension officer available to every small scale farmer and whether these extension officers are equipped with the necessary skills and materials to deliver quality and sustainable extension services to these small scale farmers. The primary purpose of this analysis therefore was to assess the effect of agricultural extension services on small scale farmers’ crop production with a bias towards rain fed Maize. Two different type Questionnaires were randomly administered on Extension Officers and small scale farmers in Chibombo Central to collect data required for case analysis. The main content of this paper demonstrates that, currently agricultural extension services implementation is characterized by high levels of Extension Officer/farmer ratio, Extension officer’s in-service/retraining gaps. The other major challenge was that although farmers were furnished with information to deal with pests, it was not adequate to deal with new type of army worm, the Fall worm, that had invaded small scale farmers during 2018/2019. The study recommends, among other steps, scaling up on in-service examinable training curriculum, Increase in the number of Block and Camp extension officers in order to bridge the Extension officer/ farmer ratio and reach the recommended 1:400 and provision of adequate and reliable transport and logistical support to Extension officers. ii。。。。。。
