Abstract
Shopping mall is a new industry which was merged in recent 20 years. People love
shopping mall because of it’s multifunction. Shopping mall industry develops vary fast in
China. According to statistics, till the end of year 2011, there are 2812 shopping mall were
built in China.
Effected by the Financial Crisis competition and cost increase, the growth of retail
industry shows slow. Retail companies are facing the pressure of industrial competition.
Shopping mall industry has the same problem. High cost, homogenization competition and
lake of industry experience are three key problems in this area. To survive under this
environment, the operators of shopping mall should find ways to reduce cost and improve
customer experience.
OP mall is a new shopping mall which was located in Shanghai. It facing the same
problem what we mentioned. To reduce the operation cost and attract more visitors, the
management determined to invest IT.
It will take a long period to build up IT system in the company. Not only investment,
but also to put lot of effort to manage the process to achieve the goal. The first step is
planning, to define the object of the project and road-map. Then follow the plan, step by
step to reach the goal. To OP mall, they define five phase for IT project, they were
Infrastructure, Core business process, Collaboration Platform, CRM and BI. During the
process of this project, they also need wide range of knowledge such as project
management skills, IT knowledge to support the project.
It gives a overview of IT process in shopping mall industry. It can be a reference for
retail IT project.
