Abstract
Based on the basic situation of China's economic development and the international
background of economic globalization, this paper carries out theoretical analysis and
empirical test on the impact of financial opening on the upgrading of industrial structure. At
the same time, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was selected as a key
case study. In 2018, the population of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
reached 70 million, and its economic scale exceeded 1.4 trillion US dollars. The construction
of the Greater Bay Area was mentioned in the report of the 19th CPC National Congress and
the Government Work Report in 2019, and it has been elevated to the height of national
strategy. Highest openness in China, one of the strongest economic vitality, a large bay area
of guangdong especially on foreign trade and opening to the outside world are in a leading
position at home, at the same time in many sectors such as finance, science and technology,
culture and led the world, in the global innovation index in 2020 report, shenzhen - Hong
Kong - guangzhou innovation cluster 2 in the world, It is second only to the Tokyo-Yokohama
innovation cluster, indicating that Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have strong
competitiveness and leading exemplary role in the field of scientific and technological
innovation. Starting from the background and significance of China's current financial
opening and industrial structure upgrading, this paper sorts out and summarizes relevant
research literature, and proposes research entry points and research methods. Secondly, on
the basis of the existing research, the paper theoretically analyzes the mechanism of action
between financial opening and industrial structure upgrading. Then, through the collection
and collation of relevant data of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the
evaluation index of financial openness is constructed and measured based on the reference of
existing studies, and the status quo of financial openness and industrial structure upgrading
is statistically analyzed. Finally, with financial openness as the key index, a model is
constructed to empirically test the impact of financial openness on industrial structure
upgrading in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Based on this, some
policy suggestions on regional financial openness and industrial structure upgrading and
development are put forward for reference.
